Flowers that Repel Flies and Mosquitoes
Germinate flower seeds in the right conditions. Seeds will develop in 6-8 weeks or earlier. Seeds can germinate indoors during the Winter months and during early Spring days in moist seed starter soil mix. Mix and slightly moisten seed starter soil mix prior to transplanting new seedlings. This allows for even root development..
Seeds Expand During Germination
This nutrition period is done in a warm plant growing environment above 55 degrees. This environment can be gotten with a gardening plant terrarium unit. While the seeds are nourishing in a garden plant terrarium, the terrarium can be covered with a dark cloth to lower the light to the type of seeds that require low or zero light levels. However, there are many types of seeds that need light to germinate, those seeds include geranium seeds, marigold seeds, snapdragon seeds, poppy seeds and melon seeds. Germinating these types of seeds the terrarium units stay without a dark cloth covering, and the terrarium units are put in lighted areas.
As the seeds start to grow and expand, the diet of the seeds change. The seeds now need constant nutrition and water, just prior to the first natural leaves growing onto the seeds. After this time period, full root development can take up to 6-8 weeks depending on the mineral levels of the soil. The more nutrients in the soil, the quicker the latter stage of the germination period matures into high levels of root development. The moisture level of the soil that is not a rapid dripping level, brings the vitamin and food to the matured stage of the seed’s germination. More root development makes the plant more vibrant and healthy.
During the early stages of root development when the true leaves have formed on the seedlings, transplant the seedlings into a soil potting mixture with more nutrients.
Leaves Spring Out From Seeds
The nutrient levels for the new seedlings now have changed again. Instead of just the seed, the roots and leaves have formed. The roots are starting to grow downward, several root stems, and the leaves are starting to grow upward, one to three leaves per seed. At this point the germination period is maturing. Now, the new seedlings need more food and nutrients for their root space environments.
Seedlings in Warm Space with Sunlight and Artificial Light
After a visible stem comes along with the leaves, transplant the seedlings to larger vessels, or keep in same vessel if there is enough room for root development and enough room to add more potting soil mixture. If transplanting the seedling, plant the seedlings into a potting soil mix used for container flowers. These seedlings need to be in a warm space with plenty of sunlight during the day and artificial light during the night. Nutrients in the soil mixes and added deluded liquid fertilizer when watering will feed the seedlings. Keep soil moist, not over watered. Use fertilizer about once a week.
Plant Geranium plants in planters and feed with organic fertilizer.
These Geranium planters can be moved to different areas in the yard.
The scent of the flower repels mosquitoes in large outdoor areas.
